Feels Like Home
by Katie Stump

I grew up in a small house on a culdesac in Fullerton California. It wasn't perfect, but it was home. I was raised by wonderful parents who taught me to work hard and follow my dreams, and had a little brother as a partner in crime through every train set, couch fort, and stuffed animal party. As everything in life, though, that phase didn't last forever. We moved out of that house when I was 12, and before I knew it I was off to college, moving out to make a life of my own in a scary place called Los Angeles.

It was terrifying at first, but the more uncertain my future became, the more I clung to my guitar, writing songs about everything I was going through and finding comfort singing them in the stairwells of my freshman dorm. After easily three dozen new songs and countless nights playing the open mic at the on-campus coffee house, I realized that music was more than just a hobby to me. It was my life. And I needed to do something about it.

That year, I made the even further terrifying decision to make music my career. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been a walk in the park. Sometimes I wonder why I couldn't have had a passion for accounting or something. But, what I do know is that there is no place I feel more at home than onstage, playing my songs for people that reach a level of connection with them. It is unlike anything in this entire world. And I don't care who you are or where you come from, everyone - EVERYONE deserves a place like that.
